Teams must play their matches on the day and at the time stated in the current handbook. If this is not possible due to court unavailability, it is the responsibility of the home team to make arrangements with the visiting team to play the match on an alternative day or time. This must be done at least 8 days before the match is due to be played.

Prior to the start of the season a list of match players & their school years must be provided to the league. Any player not on the list at the time of the fixture will be classed as an ineligible player.  Any sets won by an ineligible player will be conceded.  If a club acquires a new player after the start of the season their name can be added to the list by emailing the Chairman with the player’s details.  No new registrations will be permitted within one month of the date of the Monday of the final fixture week.  A player may only play for one club in any season.

In any individual league a player may only play one match in any particular week’s fixtures, this rule applies regardless of the day and time the match is played.

A Representative from both clubs is to be present at match fixtures (representative defined as person age 18+).

If bad weather causes cancellation of a match it may be mutually re-arranged for an alternative date.  If a club is unable to raise a team in any week, the match will be conceded as a win to the opponents.

In the event of eligible players being unavailable the club must try to fulfil its fixture commitment by fielding a full team and conceding its ineligible player results.   Any club playing an over-aged player which has not been advised to the opposition will have a 2 point match penalty deduction.

The home team is responsible for sending the scorecard without delay to the named collator. (Currently Imogen Jones) All matches must be played before July 31st.

No photographs or videos may be taken during matches, and no images should be taken of players without written permission.

The Junior and Intermediate Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 7th  September 2026 at 7.30pm (provisional) at the Longley Tennis Club, Longley Road, Huddersfield. All clubs with Junior Teams are expected to be represented at this meeting and a fine of £25 will be made in the event of non-attendance.  Any proposals for rule changes must be sent to the Junior League Chairman by July 31st.

Clubs must ensure that all players wear correct footwear for matches as indicated in this Handbook.

The appropriate rules from the adult league rules will be used for any matters not specifically covered by the general and match rules for junior and intermediate tennis.

MATCH RULES FOR JUNIOR TENNIS

JUNIOR SINGLES / DOUBLES

Each team will comprise 4 players (any combination of boys and girls). Players will play in rank order.  Each player will play their opposite number at singles, in two, first to 4 games set, with a tie break at 3 all.

No 1 and No 2 of each team will then play 2 sets of doubles against their opposite numbers and similarly 3 and 4 will play 3 and 4 in 2 sets of doubles. In each case the sets will be first to 4 games and a tie break will operate at 3 games all.

Sudden death deuce will be used in all matches.  At deuce the receiver decides which side to receive from.

If a match is tied at 1 set all a championship tie break, first to 10 points by 2 clear points, will be played.

The home team are to provide at least 6 match balls from the current Huddersfield League match ball sponsor which are in good condition.  If 3 courts are used 9 balls must be provided.

LEAGUE POSITIONS

A match is won by the team winning the most matches, so it is out of 6 matches.   2 points will be awarded for a win and 1 point for a draw.

At the end of the season, where teams have equal numbers of points, the higher league position will be given to the one with the better results in the matches between the clubs concerned.  If the results are equal then sets won will be used and if level on sets the better games scores in the matches between the clubs concerned will be used.
